SHREVEPORT – A career night by junior Holli Wilkins couldn’t lift the Centenary women’s basketball team to their first Mid-Continent Conference win of the year as they fell to visiting IUPUI 70-62.  Wilkins scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, both career highs, but the Ladies couldn’t overcome an 11-0 deficit to start the game.

Down 12 early in the second half, the Ladies rallied back to pull within three at the 8:32 mark.  IUPUI wouldn’t see another double-figure lead, and Centenary would close the gap to three with 26 ticks remaining on a Wilkins three pointer, but the Jaguars would hit clutch free throws to end the game on a 5-0 run.

Van’esha Brabson and Karolina Sokalska would join Wilkins in double-digit scoring with 11 and a career high 10 respectively, and Laura Kizyte would add 10 boards in the loss.

Two Jaguars recorded double-doubles, with Jernisha Cann scoring 17 points and pulling down 14 rebounds off the bench, and Tanika Mays collecting 12 and 10 on the night.

IUPUI (8-6, 3-1 Mid-Con) jumped to an early 11-0 lead in the first half, looking to take advantage of multiple Ladies turnovers.  Back-to-back threes by Sokalska in the final minute would close the gap to eight, but Mays layup with five seconds left in the half would give the Jags a 10 point lead going into the break.

Centenary (1-14, 0-4 Mid-Con) remains home as the host Chicago State as part of a mixed school doubleheader with the men’s team on Saturday.  The Ladies tip off at 4:30 p.m., while the Gents take on Southern Utah at approximately 7 p.m.  Both games can be heard locally on KSYR “Sunny” 92.1 FM and online at www.
