DENTON, Tex.—The Centenary gymnastics team opens its 2006 season in pursuit of a return trip to the USA Gymnastics National Championships with its first meet on Sunday. The Ladies will travel to Texas Woman’s University for a 2 p.m. meet that also features LSU and Utah State.

Seniors Sarah Ball, Sarah Racioppi, and Carmen Reid, each of whom bring a wealth of experience to the team, lead the Ladies. Ball and Racioppi each earned USAG All-America status last year for Centenary. Ball reached the honor with an exceptional performance in the all-around while Racioppi earned the accolade with her solid floor routine.

Juniors Jesse Angus and Kristina Menne also provide a punch to the team with their always-steady efforts. Angus looks to be a fixture in the bar and beam line-up for the Ladies while Menne takes her usual position as the top all-around performer for the Maroon and White. Menne was also a USAG All-America selection in 2005 after outstanding performances in the all-around and on the bars.

Meredith Smith rounds out the returning All-Americans from last year’s squad as the sophomore earned her recognition on the vault. Kristen Cox and transfer Callae Canfield fill out the rest of the sophomore class for Centenary while freshmen Mandy Bennett, Bethannie Bowie, Julia Cornelius, and Diana Janda look to contribute to the team immediately.

The Ladies return to the Gold Dome for their first home meet of the season when they host Missouri and Air Force on January 20 at 7 p.m.
