Mid-Con Weekly Baseball Release (2-6-06)

Justin Darr

Brandon Fulenchek

Centenary baseball players Justin Darr and Brandon Fulenchek were named Mid-Continent Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after leading the Gents to a 2-1 record over the weekend.  The Maroon and White swept the opening doubleheader over Arkansas-Pine Bluff 11-0 and 10-0 before falling 6-5 on Sunday.

Darr, a senior catcher/designated hitter from The Woodlands, Texas, earns his first Mid-Con accolade after hitting .667 for the series.  He went 8-for-12 in three games against the Golden Lions, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the second game of the twinbill.  Darr also added five runs, five RBI, and three stolen bases on the weekend.

Fulenchek picks up his first weekly honor after being named to the Mid-Con All-Tournament Team last season.  The southpaw from McKinney, Texas, was perfect through the first three of his seven scoreless innings, striking out six without surrendering a walk.  Fulenchek (1-0) allowed just one batter to reach third base in his first win of the season.

The Gents (2-1) remain home to host Coppin State for a three game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.  First pitch for Sunday’s single contest will also be at 12 noon.
