SHREVEPORT – In her final home game of her career, Centenary senior Van’esha Brabson moved into third place all-time in the school’s women’s basketball list in a 78-53 loss to visiting Oakland.  Brabson passed Ladies Hall-of-Fame player Zebber Satcher-Jackson with a double-double, including 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, for a career total of 878 points.

Fellow seniors Laura Kizyte and Karolina Sokalska also bid farewell to the Gold Dome in Saturday’s contest, but it was junior Holli Wilkins who added her name to the Centenary record books as well.  Wilkins scored 13 points to go with seven rebounds and four steals, and her six blocks tied the Centenary single game record.

The game started off a close contest, as the Ladies lead 3-2 early and trailed by as few as four at 16-12 with 11:45 to go play in the half after a Brabson three.  Oakland (12-12, 8-5 Mid-Con) wouldn’t let the game get any closer as Anne Hafeli and Jayme Wilson each lit the Ladies for over 20 points on the night.

The Golden Grizzlies, up 15 at the break, began the second half on a 9-0 before the Ladies responded with back-to-back baskets.  Down as many as 34 with 4:27 to play, the Ladies showed no quit in them as they battled back by outscoring Oakland 13-4 down the stretch, including nine points by Wilkins.

Centenary (3-23, 2-13 Mid-Con) next travels for their season finale against defending Mid-Continent Conference champions Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla., next Saturday.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
