Centenary Picked Third in Mid-Con Women's Soccer Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill – The Centenary women’s soccer team has been picked to finish third in the Mid-Continent Conference in 2005, as voted by the head coaches of participating schools.   The Ladies have qualified for the four-team conference tournament each year since joining the Mid-Con in the 2003 season.

 

Defending champion Oral Roberts (35 points) was tabbed to repeat, garnering five first-place votes, while 2003 champion Oakland (32 points) came in second, collecting the remaining two first-place votes.  Centenary (21 points) was selected third for the second consecutive season while IUPUI (19 points) and Valparaiso (19 points) tied for fourth as Southern Utah (12 points) and Western Illinois (11 points) rounded out the voting.

 

The Ladies will look to continue their string of Mid-Con tournament appearances after posting records 10-7-3 and 14-5-1 the past two seasons.  Centenary will be without their four top scorers from a year ago, but do return two-time First-Team All-Mid-Con D/MF Sam Savage.  Opening the regular season against Tennessee-Martin on Friday, August 26 in Monroe, La., the Ladies’ begin conference play as they travel to face preseason favorite Oral Roberts on Friday, September 23 in Tulsa, Okla.

 

Centenary College is the smallest Division I school in the nation with an enrollment of 880. Founded in 1825 and located in Shreveport, La., Centenary is the oldest college west of the Mississippi River.
