SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s soccer team is set to kick off their 2005 season with a pair of games this weekend at the Louisiana-Monroe Waterfront Classic.  The Ladies will open the four-team competition against Tennessee-Martin on Friday at 5 p.m. and play Alabama A&M in their second game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Leading the Ladies will be back-to-back First-Team All-Mid-Con defender Sam Savage, one of only two seniors and five upperclassmen on the team.  Also returning are juniors Joanna Bunn, Heather Kasparek, and Lauren Mills to anchor a defensive backfield that second-year head coach Chase Wooten believes could be better than the 2004 squad that helped post seven shutouts.

Centenary is 2-0 all-time against Tennessee-Martin, having last faced the Skyhawks in back-to-back seasons in 1999 and 2000, winning 9-0 and 8-1 respectively.  The Ladies hold a 3-0 advantage over Alabama A&M, downing the Bulldogs by a combined score of 8-0 over the three games.

The Ladies begin the 2005 season with a four game road series before the home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 7, against in-state rival Northwestern State at 7 p.m.
