SHREVEPORT – The Centenary men’s soccer team lost their final exhibition match of the season 4-0 to visiting NAIA school William Carey.  The Gents used the opportunity to take a final look at the entire roster in live competition before beginning the season with three consecutive road tournaments.

The Crusaders took a quick two-goal lead in the first 10 minutes, scoring at the 6:08 and 9:04 marks.  William Carey added another tally in the 61st minute and closed the match at 4-0 in the 82nd minute.

Centenary, giving all their available players significant playing time and an ample opportunity to make the starting lineup, used a multitude of substitutions and platooned their trio of sophomore goalkeepers.  Donnie Henderson, Ransone Rose, and James Speed each logged 30 minutes, with Rose not allowing a goal and Speed leading group with three saves.

Offensively, sophomore transfers Michael Smith and Joseph Volanksi paced the Gents in outshooting William Carey 18-12, including 11-4 in the first half.  Volanski logged seven shots while Smith added four.  Senior J.J. Meyer and freshman Will Todd both added three.

The Gents open their 2005 campaign on the road at the seventh annual Memphis Diadora Tournament against nationally ranked Memphis.  Centenary will face the #27 Tigers on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m., and will face Belmont on Monday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
