MONROE, La. – The Centenary women’s soccer team dropped their first contest of the year 3-2 against Alabama A&M in the Louisiana-Monroe Waterfront Classic.  The Lady Bulldogs converted a penalty kick with less than two minutes to play to seal the victory.

Alabama A&M (2-0) scored their first goal in the waning minutes of the first half in the 43rd minute and added another at the 72:45 mark to grab a 2-0 advantage.

The Ladies (1-1) would respond quickly, netting a goal by senior Luiza Pegado moments later with an assist by freshman Tracy Apgar.  Fellow senior Sam Savage’s goal less than 10 minutes later knotted the match at 2-2 with seven minutes to play.  Rachel Alexander picked up her second assist of the season on the tying goal.

Freshman keeper Sarah Balkey collected three saves in the loss, as Alabama A&M outshot the Ladies 13-7.

Centenary next travels to Huntsville, Texas, to take on Sam Houston State on Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m.  The match will be the first in program history against the Bearkats.
