Monday, August 29, 2005

ELMHURST, Ill.—Centenary volleyball player Liliana Williams has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the league office. Williams helped the Ladies to a 2-2 record last weekend at the Southeastern Louisiana Tournament by playing solid defense from her libero position. The accolade is the first for a Centenary volleyball player since the Ladies began Mid-Con play in 2003.

Williams (Heath, Tex.), a freshman, led all Ladies with 48 total digs in her first collegiate action. The 5-8 defensive specialist recorded double-digit digs in three of the four weekend matches. She collected 14 digs against Southeastern Louisiana and also had matches of 13 digs and 12 digs against Alabama State and New Orleans respectively.

Williams and the Ladies will return to action on Friday when they take part in the Louisiana-Lafayette Tournament. Centenary is scheduled to face Louisiana Tech and Jackson State in addition to the host Ragin’ Cajuns in the two-day event.
