SHREVEPORT – Coming off a weekend split at the Louisiana-Monroe Waterfront Classic, the Centenary women’s soccer team heads back out on the road this weekend for a pair of matches.  The Ladies travel to Huntsville, Texas, to take on Sam Houston State on Friday at 7 p.m.  They will then return to the Pelican State for an I-20 match-up with Louisiana Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Ruston.

The Ladies are 1-1 this year after a season opening victory over Tennessee-Martin and a last minute loss to Alabama A&M.  The victory ensured the first back-to-back victories in season openers after losing the previous six consecutive.

Ladies head coach Chase Wooten is looking forward to getting his team back on the field this weekend, hoping that the competition will help his young squad continue to develop.

“We saw a lot of good things last week,” Wooten said, “and we got better between games.  The more we play, the more experience our team has together. This weekend’s opponents should give us a great chance to continue to develop before conference play.”

Centenary is undefeated against Louisiana Tech and has never faced Sam Houston State.  The Bearkats (0-1) suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to Texas Tech to start the season while the Lady Techsters (1-1) picked up their first win in program history with a victory over Mississippi Valley State after dropping their season opener to Northwestern State.

Senior Sam Savage, a two-time First Team Mid-Continent Conference selection, is one of five Ladies sharing the team lead in points.  Local product Rachel Alexander (Parkway HS) leads the team with a pair of assists.
