SLAM! Baseball Player of the Week

David McElroy

TORONTO – Centenary junior pitcher David McElroy has added another in-season accolade to his résumé after being named SLAM! Sports Baseball All-Canadian Player of the Week.  The Victoria, British Columbia, native shares the honor with Shawn Schaefer of the NAIA school University of British Columbia.  The award recognizes the best of the 562 Canadians playing south of the border.

McElroy (2-0) earned the award after leading the Gents to an 8-1 victory over Coppin State, throwing six innings of scoreless one-hit ball while striking out four.  He was named Mid-Continent Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for his efforts and earned the honor again last week as he tossed another six innings against Northern Iowa, allowing just one unearned run a week later.

The Gents (7-8) have their first open weekend of the 2006 season before traveling to Big 12 powerhouse Oklahoma for a three-game series starting March 10.  McElroy is tentatively schedule to start the third game of the series on Sunday, March 12 at 1 p.m.
