Morton Honored with Mid-Con Weekly Award, Doria Selected All-Tournament

ELMHURST, Ill.—For the fourth time in five weeks a Centenary hurler has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Pitcher of the Week. Sophomore Kristan Morton collects the honor this week for her first such accolade while freshman Ashley Lail has been selected three times in her debut season for the Ladies. Freshman Emerald Doria was also named to the Leigh’s Athletic Wear Panther Classic All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend.

 

Morton (Texas City, Tex.) got the nod from the league office after going 2-0 on the week with a pair of wins over Alcorn State, including a complete game four-hitter where she struck out seven Lady Braves. For the week, she pitched 12.1 innings, compiled a 1.70 ERA, allowed nine hits, three earned runs, fanned nine hitters, and held her opponents to just a .196 batting average.

 

Doria (San Antonio, Tex.) hit .333 at the tournament hosted by Birmingham-Southern. She collected seven hits, one double and one homerun, three RBI and scored four times. She had 11 total bases to lead the team and finished with a .524 slugging percentage in addition to stealing a base.

 

The Ladies return to action when they travel to face Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Centenary will host Stephen F. Austin back in Shreveport on Thursday at 5 p.m.
