FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Looking to pick up their first win against a ranked opponent in five tries, the Centenary baseball team came up short as they fell to host #11 Arkansas 10-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Alex Maldonado collected a pair of hits for the Gents (9-12) while Matt Webb hit his second homerun of the season in the loss, a two-run, opposite field shot in the eighth.  Jimmy Baker and Torey Williams also notched hits in the game.

Junior southpaw Brandon Fulenchek (2-5) picked up the loss for Centenary, tossing three innings while giving up five runs on five Razorback hits.

Arkansas (18-3) plated seven runs in seven innings before Webb’s blast put the Gents on the board.  Four Razorbacks collected multiple hits, led by Danny Hamblin with three.  Craig Gentry scored twice and drove in four runs, three on a homerun in the bottom of the eighth to cap the home team’s scoring.

James Gilbert earned the win for Arkansas, allowing just three hits in five innings while striking out four.  He didn’t allow a run.

Centenary and Arkansas tangle again tomorrow at 3 p.m.  The Gents then return home to host North Dakota State for a three-game series starting Friday at Shehee Stadium.
