SHREVEPORT—The Centenary men’s tennis team fell on Wednesday afternoon to a very tough Southeastern Louisiana squad 7-0. The Lions are ranked #58 in the latest ITA National Rankings, but Russ Patrick and Seva Kostelanetz did not go down easy in their singles matches.

 

Patrick pushed SLU’s Matthieu Leboucher to a third set tiebreaker before going down 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-8 in the third singles slot. Kostelanetz dropped his first set 6-0 to Olivier Zieleniecki, but bounced back to force a tiebreaker before coming up short 7-6 (3) in the sixth position. #1 Josh Pinto lost 6-0, 6-2, #2 Dylan Dyer went down 6-3, 6-2, #4 Arthur Okura fell 6-0, 6-2, and #5 Matthew Shoptaugh came up short at 6-3, 6-0.

 

In doubles action, Pinto and Patrick were upended 8-2 by Haris Huremovic and Ondrej Krivka before Illie Babincuic and Vladimir Paunic dismissed Shoptaugh and Kostelanetz 8-1. The second doubles position was not finished after SLU clinched the doubles point by winning two out of three.

 

The Gents will see their next action when they travel to face Alcorn State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
