NATCHITOCHES, La.- Playing their rubber match after splitting a doubleheader at the Arkansas tournament earlier this season, Northwestern State took home the series win with a 5-0 shutout over the Centenary softball team Wednesday night.

Lady Demon pitcher Michelle Castellano (5-1) struck out nine Ladies on the day, allowing just three hits for the complete-game shutout victory.

Seldom thrown pitcher Dana Davis (0-1), Centenary’s regular starting first baseman, took the mound for the Ladies.  She allowed two runs on three hits in two innings for the loss.  She struck out a pair and walked one before being relieved by Jessica Ivins.  Ivins tossed three innings of relief, striking out three while allowing three runs.

Northwestern (19-23) didn’t allow a Ladies runner past second, and had just two opposing players reach scoring position.  Lauren Flowers singled in the fourth, advancing to second on an error by the centerfielder an again reched second on a seventh-inning lead-off single and a subsequent walk.  Amy Wiedeman recorded the Ladies only other hit in the third with a single up the middle.

The Ladies (21-17) hit the road this weekend as they travel to Cedar City, Utah, to face Mid-Continent Conference foe Southern Utah.
