DALLAS – The Centenary men’s soccer team pulled off their biggest win of the spring season with a 2-1 victory on the road over Southern Methodist.  The Mustangs made an appearance in the NCAA semifinals in 2005, ending the season ranked #4 nationally.

SMU took the initial lead as Chase Wileman booted a free kick from the right side of the box, bending the shot around the Gents defensive wall five minutes in for the goal.

The Gents would respond less than 10 minutes later as Ben Caldarera collected a pass from Gabe Silvas for the goal, knotting the score at 1-1.  Second team All-Mid-Con performer Aaron Volanski netted the game-winner later in the half, controlling a chipped free kick from Will Todd in front of the net for the score.

“I’ve got to congratulate our guys for a well played game,” head coach Eric Mayo said. “They played a complete game and deserved the result.  The win helps solidify our spring training, especially our work on defense and communication.”

“This win gives us confidence going into next year’s schedule against some big-time ranked opponents that we can play with these guys and we can beat these guys.”

Centenary concludes their 2006 spring schedule on Friday, April 21, as they host the DFW Tornados.  Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. at Mayo Field.
