CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Centenary baseball team dropped the opening game of a four-game series at Mid-Continent Conference foe Southern Utah 13-7 before lightning and rain forced the postponement of the nightcap that was tied a 5-5 in the fifth inning.  Saturday’s doubleheader will follow the completion of the unfinished seven-inning contest.

Gents (14-19, 2-3 Mid-Con) starter Brandon Fulenchek (2-6) couldn’t repeat a magic performance against Southern Utah that earned him Mid-Con All-Tournament Team honors last season.  The junior southpaw allowed six earned runs on 12 hits in four innings, striking out four in the process.

Southern Utah (18-12, 4-1 Mid-Con) scored in every inning but two, including a five-spot in the eighth.  Thunderbird starter Kasey Hubbard (4-3) tossed 6 1/3 innings of six hit ball, allowing six runs, three unearned, while fanning seven.

Justin Darr paced the Gents with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, driving in a pair of runs.  Robbie Knowles and Matt Webb also chipped in with a pair of hits each, including doubles for all three.

Several Thunderbirds also had proficient games as Charlie Hahl and Trevor Dimick each collected four hits on the day.  Four other SUU players also had multiple hits.
