SHREVEPORT – In a rematch of the 2005 Mid-Continent Conference championship, the Centenary baseball team host last year’s defending champs Oral Roberts to a four-game series this weekend at Shehee Stadium.  The Golden Eagles defeated the Gents twice in last season’s double-elimination tournament in Tulsa, Okla.

Centenary comes into the weekend with a 15-22 overall record, including a 3-5 mark after two weekends of Mid-Con action.  The Gents begin the season against the league’s three other top programs, culminating with a show-down against the Golden Eagles.

Oral Roberts is 19-12 on the year with a perfect 3-0 mark in league play.  The Golden Eagles took three games against Valparaiso before the fourth was cancelled because of poor weather.

Leading the way for the Gents offensively are Tim Ryan (.364 BA, 3 3B, 3 HR), Justin Darr (.356 BA, 25 RBI), and Matt Webb (.341 BA, 10 2B, 3 HR).  Alex Maldonado, Torey Williams, and Justin Huff are all also hitting over .300 while Jimmy Baker is a shy .001 points off the mark at .299.  Baker leads team with 12 doubles and 28 RBI while sharing the lead for homeruns with three.

On the mound for the Gents this weekend will be Matt Clark and Will Kaage on Saturday, followed by Johnny Noland and David McElroy on Sunday.  McElroy leads the Gents with a 3-0 record, including a 3.13 ERA and a .259 opponent’s batting average.  Clark has won his last two outings, both against conference opponents Western Illinois and Southern Utah.  Kaage and Noland both delivered solid performances against SUU last weekend for no decisions.

The Golden Eagles are hitting .310 as a team, lead by seven players batting over .300.  ORU has hit 31 homeruns on the year, leading the Mid-Con and ranked 21st in the nation.

Pitching for Oral Roberts this weekend will be Taylor McIntyre and Chris Ashman on Saturday with Daniel Greenwalt and Nick Jones going on Sunday.  Ashman leads the team with a 5-1 record and a 2.57 ERA.

Saturday’s action is set for a doubleheader starting at 12 noon with Sunday’s play following the same format.
