SHREVEPORT—Centenary cross country coach Shelley Armstrong has announced the signing of Sunny LaGrone and Adam Nerio to National Letters of Intent. LaGrone will participate on the Ladies’ squad in the fall after choosing to stay close to home in Shreveport while Nerio hails from San Antonio and will join the Gents’ lineup.

LaGrone (Shreveport, La.) is currently the team captain at Byrd High School where she runs the mile in 5:55. She won both the mile and two-mile events at Captain Shreve High School’s track meet in March and is very active off of the course as well. She represented her high school at the Girl’s State Conference in Baton Rouge, she is the yearbook editor, and attended a conference in New York City with her yearbook faculty members recently.

“Sunny is the ideal Centenary College student-athlete,” said Armstrong of her newest women’s recruit. “She is a team player, she is willing to push and motivate others, and she will immediately impact the Ladies’ team with her leadership abilities and passion for the sport.”

Nerio (San Antonio, Texas) will don the Maroon and White for the Gents this coming fall after graduating from Ronald Reagan High School. He has posted a 5K time of 16:48 and finishes the mile in 4:50.

“Adam has been highly successful at the high school level and his presence will be felt within the team from the start,” said Armstrong. “He is a perfect fit for our men’s program. Adam is a hard worker and a strong runner that should excel at the longer distances in college.”
