Ladies Softball Clinches Spot in Mid-Con Tourney
Monday, May 1, 2006

SHREVEPORT—Despite having a bye last weekend from Mid-Continent Conference play, the Centenary Ladies softball team clinched its third consecutive trip to the league’s championship tournament in as many years in the conference. The tournament field has now been set with Southern Utah, Centenary, Western Illinois, and Oakland claiming the four spots in Cedar City, Utah, for the weekend of May 12-14.

Although the top four teams have been determined, the seeding for the three-day event is still up in the air. Southern Utah (28-29, 18-2 Mid-Con) has earned the top seed and cannot lose the honor no matter what happens in the final weekend of play. However, Centenary (30-22, 12-8 Mid-Con), Western Illinois (19-30, 11-8 Mid-Con), and Oakland (25-24, 11-9 Mid-Con) are all fighting for the #2, #3, and #4 seeds.

The final order of finish will most likely come down to the final day of play as Centenary hosts Western Illinois on Friday and Saturday while Oakland welcomes Southern Utah for the weekend.

The Ladies have won the Mid-Con Tournament the last two years and have earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on both occasions.
