SHREVEPORT—Centenary gymnastics coach Bill Hardy has announced the signings of Whitney Daugherty and Courtney Hawkins to National Letters of Intent. The pair of gymnasts add to a strong Maroon and White team that lost only three Ladies from last year’s squad that qualified for the USA Gymnastics Nationals.

Daugherty joins the Centenary team from the Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta in Kennesaw, Ga. She placed 10th in the all-around and sixth on the vault as well as second on the floor exercise at the 2006 Region VIII Level 10 Regionals. She was also third on the floor and 24th in the all-around at the 2005 Level 9 Eastern Nationals.

“Whitney is a very clean and technically sound gymnast,” said Hardy. “I think she will contribute quite significantly to our team in the upcoming 2007 season.”

Hawkins trained at Gymnastics, ETC in Sulphur, La., where she was a Level 10 gymnast. She placed 19th in the all-around at the 2006 Region VIII Level 10 Regionals.

“Courtney is a very explosive gymnast who should make an impact while contributing immediately on all four events for us,” said Hardy.

Centenary is a Division I school located in Shreveport, La. Founded in 1825, Centenary is the oldest college west of the Mississippi River.
