SHREVEPORT—Centenary volleyball coach Jenny Hazelwood has announced the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent. Sarah Chambers, Lauren Fielding, Rebekah Hill, and Christina Nichols will all join the Ladies’ squad for the upcoming season, which begins in August. The Maroon and White roster currently includes 11 players after also adding Sarah Witherington.

Chambers, from Plano, Texas, is a 5’10” outside hitter that attended Plano West Senior High School. She earned All-District Honorable Mention in 2004-05 and was Player of the Week Honorable Mention during her senior season. She helped her prep team to district, area, and regional quarterfinal championships as a junior and also led the program to a bi-district championship and regional quarterfinal appearance in 2005-06.

“Sarah’s height and ball control will be an asset to our program,” said Hazelwood. “We look forward to having her on the court.”

A 5’5” libero, Fielding is also from Plano, Texas. She comes to Centenary from Plano Senior High and the Dallas Force club team. She was a member of the All-Area and First Team All-District teams in 2005, was named Honorable Mention in 2003 and 2004, and was selected as the Defensive MVP at the Birdville Tournament twice. She helped guide her prep team to the Elite Eight in 2005 and her club team has advanced to the national tournament in each of the last two attempts.

“Lauren is an outstanding defensive player. Her ability and leadership will help take us to the next level,” said Hazelwood.

Hill is a 6’1” middle blocker from nearby Carthage, Texas. She earned First Team All-District honors three times, was All-State Honorable Mention, Academic All-District and Team Offensive Player of the Year twice each, and was named District Co-Blocker of the Year as a senior. She played her prep career at Carthage High School and also plays club volleyball with East Texas Juniors.

“Rebekah will be an immediate offensive threat for us,” said Hazelwood. “Her height and athleticism make her an important presence on the court.”

Nichols, from Katy, Texas, is a 6’0” right side hitter out of Katy High School. She was 2005 All-District Honorable Mention while notching 150 kills, 130 assists, and 100 total blocks. She also played three years of club volleyball and basketball while in high school.

“Christina is a strong player that will bring much needed depth to this team. We look for her to make an immediate impact in a Centenary uniform,” said Hazelwood.

Also joining the team for the 2006-07 campaign is Sarah Witherington of Little Elm, Texas. She was a second team All-District selection and was named Best Blocker while at First Baptist Academy of Dallas. Sarah also played club for the Denton Juniors and Club Kahuna.
