SHREVEPORT – Centenary women’s basketball head coach Steve Curtis has announced the addition of a pair of student-athletes to join the 2006-07 program.  Monique Jefferson (Birmingham, Ala. / Ramsay HS) and Tinesha Jones (Mansfield, La. / Mansfield HS) have signed their National Letter-of-Intent and will play for the Ladies as freshmen next season.

Jefferson is a 5-6 guard who averaged 14 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals a game playing in Alabama’s 5A competition.  She was named second-team All-State as a senior and the MVP of the 5A Alabama State Championships as her Ramsay Lady Rams won their third consecutive state title.  She also participated in the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star game as well as the North/South All-Star game.

“Monique played a big part in Ramsay’s three consecutive state championships,” Curtis said.  “She is a great addition to our program.”

Jones, product from nearby Mansfield HS, led her team to a semi-finals appearance in the 3A state championship tournament as a senior.  She earned first-team All-District honors while averaging 14 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and four steals per game.

“We are looking for Tinesha to provide a post presence for us this season,” said Curtis.  “She is an excellent rebounder who should compete for playing time immediately.”

Jefferson and Jones join early signees Leslie Forest and Samantha Gillespie, as well as recent additions Jasmine Bothwell and Bethany Joseph for the 2006-07 season.
