SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s soccer team won their first home match of the season with a 2-1 victory over visiting Texas State.  The Ladies evened their season record to 3-3 in a hard fought match that saw as many fouls as shots.

Centenary started the scoring in the 21st minute as Bre Fletcher’s one-on-one shot attempt with charging Bobcats keeper Brittany Beltramini was saved, careening the ball outside of the box.  Senior Sam Savage collected the loose ball and fired it in the top left corner of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Ladies had a chance to push to a 2-0 advantage in the 40th minute, as Savage had a one-on-one against Texas State of her own.  This time the Bobcat netminder took the shot point blank, stealing a second goal from Centenary and keeping it a one-goal contest going into halftime.

Texas State (0-6) would even the match at 1-1 in the 69th minute, as Amy Benton scored with assists by Natalie Holder and Delayna Spivey.

Not to be outdone, the Ladies came back just over two minutes later to score what would be the game-winning goal.  Fletcher took a pass from Jenny Mather and used some fancy footwork to dribble past a pair of Texas State defenders.  With yet another one-on-one opportunity, Fletcher banged home her team-leading third goal of the season.

Statistically, the Ladies were outshot once again, this time at a 21-9 margin.  But statistics can be misleading, as the majority of the Bobcats shots were fired far from the net, as Texas State had trouble penetrating the Centenary defense for most of the game.  Junior defenders Heather Kasparek and Lauren Mills anchored the defense with the help of Cori Dullnig and Carissa Barney.

In goal, sophomore keeper Ali Hilsher collected a career high 14 saves to pace the Ladies victory.

The Ladies finish their three-game homestand on Sunday as they host Southern Miss at Mayo Field.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
