MONROE, La.—The Centenary men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2005 schedule with a trip to Monroe for the Louisiana-Monroe – Pine Hills Twilight Cross Country Meet. The Gents picked up a pair of wins under the dual meet scoring standards while the Ladies also captured their first team win on the evening.

The Gents were led by a sixth place finish by freshman Michael Haydel (Bossier City, La.) who covered the four-mile course in 21:43, just 39 seconds back of the winner. Newcomers Adam Walton (15th, 22:54), Ryan Duplantis (18th, 23:14), William Fell (21st, 24:06), and David Pennywell (24th, 24:29) rounded out the top five finishers for Centenary.

The top five scores were good enough to capture wins over Northwestern State (27-29) and Louisiana College (15-49), although the Gents came up short against ULM (24-31) and overall meet champion Louisiana Tech (17-46).

On the women’s side, the Ladies pulled out a 15-48 victory over Louisiana College paced by a seventh place showing from Lori VonPingel. The sophomore from Madison, Miss., made her way through the two-mile course in 13:49, 1:21 back of the leader. The Ladies fell to Louisiana-Monroe 19-41 and Northwestern State 22-35 in finishing 1-2 on the night.

Ashley Voorhies placed 12th for Centenary with a time of 14:28, and Jennifer Bouso (14th, 15:29), Halley Grantham (16th, 15:43), and Alysha Wallace (17th, 15:48) completed the top five finishers for the Ladies.

Both teams will prepare for their next meet hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, Sept. 17th. The Ladies will take part in a 6k race beginning at 9 am, while the Gents will take on an 8k course at 9:30 am.
