LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—The Centenary women’s soccer team narrowly escaped an overtime contest with Arkansas-Little Rock and took a 1-0 victory on a late goal by Rachel Alexander on Sunday afternoon. The goal, scored with just 3:59 to play, was the first of the year for Alexander and pulled the Ladies back to the .500 mark at 4-4-1 for the season.

Alexander’s (Bossier City, La., Parkway HS) game-winner came when she drove close to the box and fired a shot towards the Trojan keeper, Marsha Stewart. Stewart saved the attempt but was not able to control the ball as Alexander snatched the rebound and redirected it into the goal.

Arkansas-Little Rock (1-7-1) managed nine shots on goal in the contest, but all nine were stopped by Centenary’s Ali Hilsher. Hilsher recorded her second shutout of the season in the win in just her third start between the pipes.

Centenary outshot UALR 13-11 and guided eight of its shots on goal. Sam Savage, along with Alexander, made up for half that total with a pair of shots each.

The Ladies will next travel to Tulsa, Okla., to take on preseason favorite Oral Roberts University in their opening weekend of Mid-Continent Conference play. Game time for Friday is set for 7 p.m.
