BEAUMONT, Texas – Centenary women’s golfer Jessica Garza took home top honors at Lamar’s Lady Cardinal Invitational, the first tournament of the freshman’s collegiate career.  Her par-4 on the third playoff hole sealed the victory of the three-round event.


As a team, the Ladies finished sixth (991) with a squad of four freshmen and a sophomore as their elder statesman.  Centenary shaved strokes off of each round they played, posting 333, 330, and 328.


Garza won the tournament with a score of 224, shooting rounds of 73, 74, and 77.  Sophomore Chloe’ Mims finished 22nd (245) with 86, 82, and 77.  Freshmen Tracy Williams (255), Leigh Newton (267), and Bethany Cox (274), finished 29th, 33rd, and 34th, respectively.  Fellow freshman Lizzie Lyles shot 308 for 36th place as an individual.


Host school Lamar (919) took home the team trophy with a 10-stroke victory over Texas State (929), followed by UT-San Antonio (938).  Louisiana-Monroe (967) and Sam Houston State (968) battled for the next spot, followed by Centenary at 991.
