NATCHITOCHES, La.—The Centenary Gents cross country team placed fifth out of an eleven-team field at the NSU Cross Country Invitational hosted by Northwestern State University on Monday evening. The Gents scored a 135 to best NSU, Southern, Nicholls State, Stephen F. Austin (B), East Texas Baptist, and Louisiana College.

Freshman Michael Haydel again proved to be Centenary’s top runner as his time of 28:38.46 on the 8k course was good enough for 15th place out of 78 total participants. Adam Walton (29:06.23) placed 22nd for the Gents while William Fell (29:42.24) crossed the finish line in 27th place. Will Boothe (30th – 29:48.47) and David Pennywell (41st – 31.21.78) rounded out the top finishers for the maroon and white.

The Gents narrowly missed a fourth-place finish as UL-Monroe landed just in front of Centenary with a score of 132. Louisiana Tech (30), UL-Lafayette (106), and Southeastern Louisiana (106) took the top three spots in the meet.

Centenary will now take a few weeks off before traveling to Valparaiso, Ind., for the Mid-Continent Conference Championships on Oct. 29th.
