CHICAGO, Ill.—The Centenary volleyball team dropped the first match of its current two-game Mid-Con road trip to Chicago State 3-1 (30-17, 29-31, 30-17, 32-30) on Friday evening. The Ladies handed the contest to the Lady Cougars in large part to 11 service errors and excessive reception errors, which allowed eight CSU aces.

Centenary (9-13, 0-4 Mid-Con) could not find the answer to jumpstart a rally all evening and struggled to play consistently as evidenced by the score. In addition to the free points allowed by the Ladies in the service game, Centenary had a hard time stopping Shakeila Castile-Jones who posted a team-high 18 kills in the win.

Chicago State (2-17, 1-3 Mid-Con) captured its first win in 2005 Mid-Con play with the help of Zuzana Pokovicova and Chrissy Davis. The duo each tallied impressive double doubles as Pokovicova finished with 15 kills and 17 digs while Davis added 12 kills and 17 digs to go with three aces. Setter Catherine Everist turned in an outstanding performance as well by running the offense with 51 assists.

Danielle Bochat led the Ladies in the loss with a match-high 19 kills alongside 17 digs of her own. Tracee Byrd contributed 13 kills, Lindsay Bekelja dished out 46 assists, and Liliana Williams accumulated 19 digs for the maroon and white on the night.

Centenary will try to bounce back when it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., for its match with the IUPUI Jaguars on Saturday at 7 p.m.
