Carmen Reid

Julia Cornelius

The usually sleepy Saturday morning parking lot of Mall St. Vincent was wide awake this past weekend as the many runners and walkers arrived for Shreveport-Bossier’s annual Race for the Cure. Among this crowd of runners were members of the Centenary Ladies gymnastics team who came out to show their support for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event consisted of three races; a 5K, a one-mile fun run, and a kid’s fifty-yard dash.  The gymnasts took on the 5K race and finished quite successfully. Senior Carmen Reid led the team with an impressive twenty-five minute finish followed closely by freshman Julia Cornelius at twenty-eight minutes. Junior Jessie Angus and freshman Mandy Bennett were close behind, both finishing in thirty-three minutes respectively. Endurance is a critical component of training for a gymnastics program, making Race for the Cure both a great opportunity for the Ladies to get involved in the community and to help prepare them for the upcoming season.
