SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s soccer team ended their three game losing streak with a 3-1 home victory over visiting Nicholls State.  The Ladies upped their offensive aggressiveness in the second half, scoring all three goals in the second frame, to pick up their second victory in their last nine games.

Centenary (6-11-1) put their first goal on the board just under two minutes into the second half, as local product Rachel Alexander (Bossier City, Parkway HS) took a feed up the middle from Lauren Stanley and fired the ball past the Lady Colonel’s keeper.  Stanley and Alexander would connect again in the 68th minute on a similarly executed play, this time with the roles reversed.

Nicholls State (2-11-0) would make things interesting as the game wore down, scoring in the 81st minute to pull the game within one.  The Ladies would answer immediately though, scoring exactly one minute later at the 81:19 mark by Bre Fletcher with an assist from Sam Savage.

Both keepers played solidly between the pipes, with Centenary freshman Sarah Balkey collecting eight saves in the win.  The Lady Colonel’s Sarah Neunzig picked up a game-high 11 saves in the loss, many of them spectacular efforts to take away sure-goals from the Ladies offense.

The Ladies wrap up their 2005 home slate with a Mid-Continent Conference match against Oakland on Friday at 7 p.m.  The game will be preceded by “Senior Night”, where the Centenary will bid farewell to graduating seniors Luiza Pegado and Savage in their final match at Mayo Field.
