SHREVEPORT—Centenary softball coach Mark Montgomery has announced the signings of Ryan Thacker and Stacy Whitmer to National Letters of Intent. The addition of the two pitchers to the current recruiting class provides balance and addresses areas of need on the Ladies roster. The group of new signees looks to be one of the most talented ever for the Centenary softball program.

Thacker (Alto, Texas) will join the 2006-07 Ladies lineup from Alto High School. The 5’5” hurler struck out 235 batters in 147 innings while issuing only four walks. She finished her senior campaign with a 16-6 record and did not allow a homerun on the year.

“Ryan is a physically strong power pitcher,” said Montgomery. “She is a tremendous athlete and will bolster our young pitching staff this season.”

Whitmer (Henderson, Ky.) is a 5’8” pitcher out of Henderson County High School. She amassed over 1,000 strikeouts in her four-year prep career and collected 41 shutouts. Her career ERA is below 1.00 and she tallied a win percentage better than .700 with 23 victories. Whitmer was selected as the Kentucky Player of the Year in 2006.

“Stacy has great velocity and movement and was a fabulous player in the state of Kentucky this last year,” said Montgomery. “She will be an excellent addition to our pitching staff.”

“Both of these young ladies are tremendous student athletes as well. They will excel not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom. We are very happy that both have chosen to make Centenary College their home,” stated Montgomery.

Thacker and Whitmer join Haley Bassett (Bossier City, La.), Kelsey Greeson (Temple, Texas), Lauren Highsmith (Houston, Texas), Allison Shepperd (Marshall, Texas), and Brittany Williams (Antioch, Tenn.) to comprise the 2006-07 Centenary Ladies recruiting class.
