—Members of the Centenary volleyball and women’s soccer teams arrived on campus today signaling the start of the new school year. Athletes from the two teams reported for move-in and promptly took part in their respective team meetings, equipment assignments, and physicals. The men’s soccer team will round out the rest of the early arrivals when they report on Friday. Classes at Centenary do not begin until August 21st.

“We are excited to have the girls back on campus,” said head volleyball coach Jenny Hazelwood. “We are ready to get back in the gym and put all our hard work together in order to grow as a team throughout the preseason.”

The volleyball team will begin conditioning testing bright and early on Thursday morning at 6:30 a.m. and will take part in their first team practice at 1:30 p.m. that afternoon. The Ladies will then settle into a schedule that includes position specific practices in addition to two-a-days. The squad will also enjoy a team-building trip through a ropes course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday on the campus of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.

The women’s soccer team will also be hard at work, only not in the air-conditioning comforts of the Gold Dome. Two-a-days begin immediately in the hot and humid climate of Shreveport for the Ladies as the team will take part in its first exhibition against Bossier Parrish Community College on August 17th, just eight days from now. The team will then have a final exhibition tune-up against McNeese State on August 19th before opening the regular season at home versus Sam Houston State on the 27th at 2 p.m.

The volleyball Ladies open their regular season slate on August 25th as they participate in a tournament hosted by the University of Tennessee. The Ladies face Miami of Ohio on the opening day of the event and then take on the host Lady Vols, ranked #11 in the CSTV/AVCA Preseason Poll, and the University of Virginia on the 26th.

The Gents soccer team will get its first attempt to take on an opponent in its exhibition against Tyler Junior College on August 19th. The Gents will then kick off their regular season campaign with a home match against Division I newcomer Central Arkansas on August 26th at 7 p.m.
