SHREVEPORT—Centenary men’s basketball coach Rob Flaska announced the Gents 2006-07 schedule Tuesday afternoon. This season’s slate includes a little of everything as Flaska’s second campaign as head coach will feature several tough road contests, renewed rivalries, and a trip to Alaska for the BP Top of the World Classic.

“This is a very challenging schedule, almost to a suicidal level,” said Flaska. “We upgraded the schedule a lot, but to be at the level we want to be at as a program we need to be able to beat teams like these. This non-conference schedule should definitely prepare us for Mid-Con play.”

The Gents will open the season on Nov. 11th at TCU and the home opener against Texas State will follow on Nov. 14th.  Centenary then travels to Alaska to participate in the BP Top of the World Classic where it will square off against Utah State and either Drake or Southeast Missouri in the second round of play. This is the second trip to the tournament for the Gents as the team also took part in the event in 2002.

Other tough road trips include excursions to Texas Tech (Dec. 9), Georgia Tech (Dec. 18), Texas (Dec. 28), and Baylor (Jan. 2). Both Georgia Tech and Texas are ranked in the preseason top 20 by multiple publications.

SMU will play the return game of a home and home series in the Gold Dome this year on Dec. 16th. The Gents will also host Wiley College in an exhibition on Nov. 25th, Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR) on Nov. 30th, and Nicholls State on Dec. 2nd. The contest with UALR pits two old opponents that go back to the days of the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) as both were charter members of the league. However, in recent years the two have not met on the hardwood floor of a basketball court since 1999.

The 150th meeting with I-49 rival Northwestern State will take place in Natchitoches on Nov. 28th and this season I-20 rival Louisiana Tech returns to the lineup as well. The Gents will hook up with the Bulldogs in the CenturyTel Center on Dec. 21st for the first time since 2002, although the two teams have met 123 times in all since 1925.

Mid-Continent Conference play begins for Centenary on Jan. 4th with Valparaiso and Western Illinois on Jan. 6th, both in the Gold Dome. The Gents end their league schedule with a road trip to Oakland University and IUPUI on Feb. 22nd and 24th. The Mid-Con Tournament will take place March 3rd through the 6th in Tulsa, Okla.
