Head Coach Steve Curtis starts
his first season at Centenary

SHREVEPORT - Embarking on his first season at the helm of the Ladies basketball program, head coach Steve Curtis announced his schedule for the 2006-07 season.

Fourteen home games highlight this season’s schedule for Centenary, with the Ladies facing four teams from the state of Louisiana in their six non-conference home games.

"I’m excited about this season’s schedule," Curtis said. "We have 14 home games and scheduled against both local and regional competition to hopefully build some excitement in the Bossier-Shreveport area."

Curtis and the Ladies tip off the season Saturday, Nov. 11, hosting Texas-Pan American at the Gold Dome. In the 10-year history of the program, Centenary boasts a 3-1 record in season openers at home.

Following a trip to the University of New Orleans Nov. 21, the Ladies travel to the Birmingham-Southern Classic Nov. 24-25, where they face Birmingham-Southern (Nov. 24) and Samford (Nov. 25) at Bill Battle Coliseum.

Continuing its road trip, Centenary travels to Northwestern State, in Natchitoches, La., for a Nov. 28 game against the Lady Demons. The Ladies return home for a Nov. 30 game against Louisiana-Monroe.

Three home games headline the schedule in the month of December, as the Ladies host Lamar (Dec. 5), Southeastern Louisiana (Dec. 9) and McNeese State (Dec. 30).

Mid-Continent Conference play opens Jan. 6, with Centenary hosting defending regular season conference champions Western Illinois. The Ladies conclude a three-game homestand Jan. 8 when they face Valparaiso.

Centenary closes out the home portion of the regular season schedule Feb. 12, as it hosts Southern Utah at the Gold Dome.

In the regular season finale, the Ladies travel to Rochester, Mich. for a contest against Oakland University Feb. 26. Oakland captured the 2006 Mid-Con Tournament Championship, earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

With five of the final seven conference games on the road, Curtis emphasized how the Ladies must have a successful early start in conference play in order to compete in this season’s Mid-Con.

This season’s Mid-Con Tournament takes place March 3-6 in Tulsa, Okla, hosted by Oral Roberts.

Centenary returns eight letterwinners from last season’s team, including three starters. Headlining the returnees is senior guard Holli Wilkins (Evadale, Texas/Evadale), who averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season.
