SHREVEPORT—The Centenary volleyball team journeys back to south Louisiana on Tuesday for a single match with Southern University at 7:30 p.m. in Baton Rouge. The Ladies just returned from New Orleans early Sunday morning after taking part in the UNO Sheraton Four Points Classic where the Maroon and White finished strong with a dominating performance over Alcorn State.

The meeting between the two teams will be the second in three weeks and the last of the season. Centenary discarded Southern in the Gold Dome at the beginning of the month 3-1 (30-14, 25-30, 30-19, 30-22) as sophomore Ashlee Freeman enjoyed her best offensive match thus far on the year. The second-year middle blocker pounded down 16 kills in the win while sophomore Danielle Bochat added 14 kills of her own. Freshman Lauren Fielding recorded five aces to go with 23 digs on the night.

The Jaguars were 3-4 heading into the Alabama State Tournament this past weekend with three straight wins over Alcorn State, Alabama State, and Texas Southern respectively. Ena Payne and Cassandra Shivers have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Players of the Week in as many weeks for Southern. Shivers collected 15 total blocks and 34 digs in earning the award.

Centenary (5-11) went 3-3 over the last seven days with a pair of wins over Alcorn State and a victory over Mississippi Valley State. Bochat leads the Ladies with 129 kills on the season for an average of 2.58 per game while Freeman is hot on her tail with 124 kills (2.43 per game). Fielding paces Centenary with 232 digs, 84 more than her next closest teammate, and she is closing in on Christina Nichols at the top of the service aces category. Nichols holds the 28-25 advantage going into Tuesday’s match.
