BATON ROUGE—The Centenary volleyball team won its second consecutive match with a 3-0 victory on the road against Southern University on Tuesday evening. The Ladies completed the season sweep over the Lady Jaguars by scores of 30-15, 30-24, 30-22 after winning at home over Southern three weeks ago.

Centenary (6-11) took control of the match from the beginning as the Maroon and White fired off 20 kills to account for all but 10 of the Ladies 30 points in game one. The team hit a single-game season-high percentage of .533 led by the sophomore tandem of Danielle Bochat (Boerne, TX/Boerne) and Rebecca Lunceford (Baton Rouge, LA/The Dunham School).

The Ladies continued to click on all cylinders in game two as they collected 19 kills. Sophomore Ashlee Freeman (Houston, TX/Bellaire) and freshman Rebekah Hill (Carthage, TX/Carthage) worked themselves into the hitting rotation while junior Lindsay Bekelja (League City, TX/Clear Creek) dished out assist after assist. Centenary closed out the contest with an exceptional defensive effort in holding Southern (4-7) to a .068 hitting percentage in game three.

Lunceford enjoyed her best game of the season during her return to her hometown. The middle blocker collected 15 kills and eight digs while playing in front of friends and family. Bochat also tallied 15 kills and eight digs from her outside hitter position. Bekelja passed out 46 assists in the victory and freshman Lauren Fielding (Plano, TX/Plano Senior) notched an impressive 21 digs in only three games. That total pushed her double digit digs streak to 14 consecutive matches.

“I am really pleased with the way we performed tonight,” said head coach Jenny Hazelwood. “This will give us a lot of confidence going into conference play this weekend.”

Centenary hosts Chicago State in the Gold Dome on Friday at 7 p.m. before opening the Mid-Continent Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday with a home match against IUPUI at 6 p.m. Being Parents and Family Weekend on campus, there will be many fun-filled functions as well as athletic events for all Centenary fans to attend.
