Dustin Forward stands 10th
in the Mid-Con in points per game

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary men’s soccer team (1-7-0, 0-1-0 Mid-Con) returns to Mayo Field for a Mid-Continent Conference game against Valparaiso (5-3-0, 1-0-0 Mid-Con) Saturday at 3 p.m.

After playing the last three games on the road, the Gents look to capture their first conference point in this weekend’s contest against the Crusaders.

Among the conference leaders in both goals and goals per game, junior Aaron Volanski (Magnolia, Texas/Memphis) and freshman Stephen Rifai (Spring, Texas/Klein) are tied for the team lead with four points this season. Scoring two goals, including one game-winner, Volanski is second on the team with 17 shots in eight starts.

Also tied for the team lead with four points is junior defender Dustin Forward (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch). Standing 10th in the Mid-Con in points per game (0.67), Forward has a goal and two assists in six starts this season.

Juniors Donnie Henderson (Houston/Westfield) and James Speed (Corpus Christi, Texas/King) have split starts this season in goal, with Henderson starting five-of-eight contests. Henderson leads the duo with a 2.85 goals-against average and a .613 save percentage.

Valparaiso leads the Mid-Con in all offensive statistical categories, averaging 2.25 goals per game and 15.50 shots per game.

Coming off a 2-1 loss to Cleveland State Sunday, Valparaiso is led in scoring by senior D.J. Catrow. The midfielder has four goals and 11 points, tied for the conference lead in points.

Sophomore Paul Leitelt stands second on the Crusaders in points with 10, registering four goals and two assists. Leitelt leads Valparaiso with 25 shots in seven games this season, standing second in the Mid-Con in shots per game (3.57).

Starting all eight games in goal, freshman Ryan Schwarz has a 1.96 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage. Credited with three shutouts this season, Schwarz leads the conference in saves per game (6.00).

Last season, Valparaiso captured a 1-0 win over Centenary, played Oct. 1, 2005 at Eastgate Field, in Valparaiso, Ind.
