ROCHESTER, Mich.—The Centenary volleyball team landed in Rochester, Mich., today in preparation for their Mid-Continent Conference match with league foe Oakland University on Friday. The Ladies will also face last year’s Mid-Con Tournament champion in Valparaiso in Indiana on Saturday evening.

Centenary (7-12, 0-1 Mid-Con) has won three of its last four matches by collecting wins over Alcorn State, Southern, and former Mid-Con member Chicago State before losing its first conference match of the season to IUPUI 3-1. The Ladies lead the conference in service aces as a team with 134 this year for an average of 2.16 per game.

Sophomore Danielle Bochat (Boerne, TX/Boerne) leads the Ladies with 162 kills and her average of 2.66 per game is ninth-best in the Mid-Con. She was recognized by the league office as the Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after collecting a school-record 32 digs in the 3-1 win over CSU. Bochat also ranks seventh in the Mid-Con in digs per game.

Other Ladies ranking on the conference leader board are junior Lindsay Bekelja (League City, TX/Clear Creek) and freshmen Lauren Fielding (Plano, TX/Plano Senior) and Christina Nichols (Katy, TX/Katy). Bekelja is third in assists per game at 9.50 while Nichols sits atop the service aces list at 0.62 per game. Fielding is third in service aces (0.55 per game) and fourth in digs (4.74 per game).

Oakland (0-12, 0-1 Mid-Con) has lost all twelve of its matches this season, but has played a challenging schedule. The Golden Grizzlies opened conference play last week with a 3-0 (14-30, 20-30, 19-30) loss at the hands of Valparaiso. Oakland is led by Stephanie Parkin’s 75 kills and Amanda Morely’s 0.97 blocks per game average.

Valparaiso (10-5, 1-0 Mid-Con) received 12 kills from Jessie Fox and 11 more from Allison Sears in defeating Oakland last weekend. The Crusaders have won six straight matches and three of their five losses have been to top 25 teams (#6 Santa Clara, #21 Notre Dame, and #13 Missouri). Nicole Schulz, Fox, and Angie Porche are all in the Mid-Con top 10 in hitting percentage and Porche is second in kills per game (3.52).

The Ladies will practice today at Oakland University before taking on the Golden Grizzlies Friday at 7 p.m. eastern. Centenary’s match with Valparaiso will begin at 7 p.m. central and the broadcast of the contest by Valpo’s student radio station can be heard on-line at http://webcast.valpo.edu/listen.pls.
