Ladies Capture Three Wins at Centenary Fall Tournament

The Ladies did not allow a run
in 17 of 18 innings

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary softball team captured three wins in the Centenary Fall Tournament, held Saturday at the Centenary Softball Complex.

Led by extremely strong play by the freshman class, the Ladies opened the tournament with 13-straight shutout innings over three games, defeating Bossier Parish Community College (5-0), Northeast Texas Community College (3-0) and East Texas Baptist University (8-3).

Outside of one three-run inning in their final game againast ETBU, the Ladies did not allow a run in 17 of 18 innings Saturday, led by the freshman pitching trio of Kelsey Greeson (Temple, Texas/Belton), Stacy Whitmer (Henderson, Ky./Henderson County) and Lauren Highsmith (Houston/Lamar).

The offensive play of the freshman class was also complimented by Ladies head coach Mark Montgomery.

Freshman Brittany Williams (Antioch, Tenn./Ezell Harding) hit a home run in the 5-0 win over BPCC to open the day on a high note for Centenary. Fellow freshmen Allison Shepperd (Marshall, Texas/Marshall) and Haley Bassett (Bossier City/Airline) finished with a near-.400 batting average for the three games.

Performing both on the mound and at the plate in the Ladies 8-3 win over ETBU, freshman Ryan Thacker (Alto, Texas/Alto) picked up the win Saturday evening, pitching four scoreless innings. Thacker also contributed with a two-run home run to left in the third inning against ETBU.

Centenary continues its fall season Oct. 7, hosting BPCC, Texarkana Community College and Louisiana Tech for a six-game tournament at the Centenary Softball Complex.
