NATCHITOCHES, La.—The Centenary cross country teams participated in the Northwestern State Cross Country Invitational on Monday evening. The Gents took fourth place out of nine teams while the Ladies finished sixth in the 10-team field. Adam Walton, William Fell, and Lori Von Pingel each placed inside the top 20 for Centenary.


The Gents ranked fourth, finishing with a combined total score of 127 behind Lamar (18), Louisiana-Lafayette (72), and Grambling (79). The men faired better than Northwestern State (139), McNeese State (148), East Texas Baptist (237), Southern (247), and Louisiana College (265).


Walton paced the Gents with an 8k time of 29:12.44 to finish in 18th place while Fell was two spots back at 20th (29:28.82). Gerrit Moeller (27th – 30:41.69), Adam Nerio (30th – 31:11.18), Brian Williams (32nd – 31:24.37), Ricky Thomas (39th – 32:33.73), and Ryan Duplantis (42nd - 32:59.83) rounded out the rest of the Gents squad in the event.


The Ladies captured sixth place with a point total of 186, placing behind Lamar (18), Louisiana-Lafayette (65), Northwestern State (113), Grambling (119), and Southern (177). McNeese State (202), East Texas Baptist (218), Louisiana Tech (259), and Louisiana College (295) all finished behind the Ladies.


Von Pingel led the Centenary women’s team with an effort of 21:28.44 in the 5k race, good enough for 18th. Sunny LaGrone was a minute back as she took 30th with a time of 22:33.28. Ashley Voorhies (43rd – 24:24.50), Taylor Robertson (47th – 24:52.67), Cara Miccioli (48th – 24:55.61), and Molly Broderick (60th – 27:22.60) also took part in the event for the Ladies.  


Both the Ladies and the Gents will next race at the Chile Pepper Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas on October 14th.
