SHREVEPORT, La. -- Both the Centenary men’s and women’s swim teams were picked fifth in the 2006-07 Mid-Continent Conference Preseason Swimming and Diving Poll, released by the conference office Wednesday.

With both the Gents and Ladies swim squads finishing in fifth place at the 2006 Mid-Con Swimming and Diving Championships, held Feb. 16-18, 2006, in Indianapolis, the Centenary men’s team garnered 14 points in the preseason poll. The Centenary ladies team received 13 points in the preseason poll.

Under the guidance of head coach Butch Jordan, the Gents return nine letterwinners from last season’s team, while the Ladies return 14 letterwinners.

Oakland University was picked as unanimous favorites to capture its eighth consecutive conference championship, picked first in both the men’s and women’s preseason polls. The Golden Grizzlies men’s and women’s teams both received six first-place votes, totaling 36 points in the preseason poll.

Centenary opens up the 2006-07 season Oct. 20, with both the men’s and women’s teams traveling to Ouachita Baptist.
