Brittany Barbee and the Ladies
begin practicing Friday evening

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Head coach Steve Curtis and the Centenary women’s basketball team are set to begin practice for the 2006-07 season Friday.

Entering his first season with the Ladies, Curtis welcomes back eight letterwinners from last season’s team, including three starters in forward Jelena Aleksic (Belgrade, Serbia), guard Brittany Barbee (Hernando, Miss.) and guard/forward Holli Wilkins (Evadale, Texas).

Wilkins, 5-11 senior, led the Mid-Continent Conference in steals last season (3.42 spg), garnering honorable mention All-Mid-Con honors.

Centenary also returns five letterwinners in Tracee Byrd (Long Beach, Miss.), Laura Way (Mt. Pleasant, Pa.), Ricquel Crockrom (Houston), Cierra Bush (Campti, La.) and Julia Bowie (Lafayette, La.) from last season’s roster.

Six freshmen join Centenary for the upcoming season, along with one junior college transfer, bringing a healthy mix of experience and youth to the Ladies.

Centenary hosts an exhibition contest against Harding University Nov. 6, opening the 2006-07 season Nov. 11 when Texas-Pan American visits the Gold Dome at 7 p.m.
