SHREVEPORT—The Centenary volleyball team hosts Western Illinois and UMKC in a pair of Mid-Continent Conference matches this weekend in the Gold Dome. The Ladies will go head-to-head with WIU on Friday at 7 p.m. before locking up with UMKC on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Western Illinois (8-10, 4-0 Mid-Con) sits in a first-place tie atop the conference standings alongside Oral Roberts with an unblemished 4-0 mark in league play. Perhaps the best defensive squad in the Mid-Con, the Westerwinds rank first in digs per game (18.15) and second in blocks per game (2.42). Senior Jennifer Alexander tops the conference individually at 5.45 dpg while freshman Erin Frick is second in blocks at 1.24 bpg.

Not to be outdone by their defensive counterparts, the offensive players on the WIU roster are holding their own as well. Junior Ashley Baker leads the Mid-Con with a .355 hitting percentage and is third in kills at 3.52 kpg. Junior Amy Sauerwein ranks tenth in the same category at 2.68 kpg.

UMKC (3-17, 1-3 Mid-Con) is tied with Centenary for fifth place in the league standings with its win coming courtesy of a 3-0 besting of Oakland. The Kangaroos are sixth in hitting percentage (.094) and digs (13.26) when matched up against their conference peers. Senior Angela Melka leads the team at 2.75 kpg and sophomore Jacqui Wood’s .236 hitting percentage is the best on the UMKC squad.

Centenary (8-15, 1-3 Mid-Con) is still the Mid-Con frontrunner in team service aces, averaging 1.97 per game. Freshmen Christina Nichols and Lauren Fielding are second and third respectively on the individual leader board with averages of 0.56 and 0.50 per game. The Ladies are fifth in the Mid-Con in hitting percentage (.119) and fourth in digs (15.83). Fielding also rates as fourth-best in the digs category ( 4.75 dpg) while sophomore Danielle Bochat is seventh (3.38 dpg).
