Centenary plays 39 homes games
during the 2007 season

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Thirty-nine home games highlight the 2007 Centenary baseball schedule, released by head coach Ed McCann Monday.

Teams from nine different conferences visit the Gents and Shehee Stadium throughout the 2007 season, with Centenary facing a total of 19 different teams in total during the season.

"We play a very balanced, but a very challenging schedule," McCann said of the 2007 schedule. "We play some very tough people early this year, but have developed through the years and have done a much better job recruiting great student-athletes to make us competitive. By playing those tough people early, it will define who we are and who we aren’t."

The Gents open the first two months of the season playing 11 opponents at home, only traveling away from Shehee Stadium to play five road games against three opponents.

Early in the season, Centenary faces teams from such conferences as the Big 10, the Big 12 and the SEC.

"We have great weather and a great stadium, so teams want to travel down here early in the season," McCann said.

The Gents open the season with a three-game series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Shehee Stadium, Feb. 3-4, followed by a three-game home series against Jackson State Feb. 9-10.

The following weekend, Centenary plays host to Penn State from the Big 10 and Kansas State from the Big 12 in the Centenary Gents Classic at Shehee Stadium, allowing the Gents to gain experience as they build towards the Mid-Continent Conference schedule.

After home series against Northern Iowa (Feb. 23-25) and Toledo (March 2-4), the Gents host LSU March 6. Welcoming the Tigers from the SEC, the March 6 game against LSU will be played at Fair Grounds Field, at the Shreveport Fairgrounds.

Stephen F. Austin, Arkansas, IPFW, Northwestern State and Chicago State all visit Shehee Stadium prior to the start of Mid-Con play.

The Mid-Con schedule starts with away series against Valparaiso (April 20-21) and Western Illinois (April 27-28).

Entering the final month of the regular season, Centenary hosts its first conference series of the season against Southern Utah May 4-5, visiting defending Mid-Con champions Oral Roberts the following weekend.

Ending last season ranked in the Top 25 in all three major collegiate baseball polls, the Golden Eagles have won the Mid-Con championship the past nine seasons. Oral Roberts advanced to their first-ever Super Regionals last season, winning the Fayetteville Regional title and ending the year ranked 14th by Collegiate Baseball, 17th by Baseball America and 19th by USA Today/ABCA.

Centenary closes out the regular season May 18-19, hosting Oakland in a four-game series at Shehee Stadium.

The 2007 Mid-Con Tournament is scheduled for May 24-26 at Boyer Stadium in Macomb, Ill. This season’s tournament is hosted by Western Illinois.
