Stephen Rifai stands second
on the Gents in scoring

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary men’s soccer team (4-10-0, 2-3-0) plays its final conference game of the season, visiting the ORU Soccer Complex, in Tulsa, Okla., for a game against Oral Roberts (4-7-3, 1-3-0) Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Entering Saturday’s game against the Golden Grizzlies, Centenary stands in a five-team tie for the final three spots for the 2006 Mid-Continent Conference Tournament, played Nov. 3-5 in Rochester, Mich. All five teams stand tied with six points in conference games this season.

Coming off a 3-0 loss to Western Illinois in their last contest, the Gents look to get back on track in their final Mid-Con game of the season.

Junior Aaron Volanski (Magnolia, Texas/Memphis) and freshman Stephen Rifai (Spring, Texas/Klein) continue to lead Centenary in scoring through 14 games.

Volanski, a midfielder, has five goals and 11 points in 14 starts this season, standing among the Mid-Con leaders in both points and goals. His 33 shots leads the Gents, scoring a team-leading two game-winning goals.

In his freshman season, Rifai has four goals and nine points to stand second on Centenary in scoring, taking 19 shots.

Junior James Speed (Corpus Christi, Texas/King) has a 2.58 goals-against average and a .675 save percentage in his 13 appearances in net this season.

Oral Roberts lost a 4-2 decision to Tulsa in its last game, with junior Jesse Roque scoring both goals for the Golden Eagles.

Roque, a midfielder, stands second on Oral Roberts in scoring this season, registering four goals and nine points in his 14 starts.

Leading the Golden Eagles in scoring and standing in the top five in the Mid-Con in both points and goals, freshman forward Juan Chang has seven goals and 16 points. Chang stands second in the conference in both goals per game (0.58) and points per game (1.33) in his 12 appearances.

Sophomore midfielder Carlos Pinto leads Oral Roberts with 35 shots, scoring two goals and registering eight points in 13 games.

In goal, senior Carlos Veron has started all 14 games this season, leading the Mid-Con in saves per game (5.23). Veron has a 1.54 goals-against average and a .764 save percentage in his 14 starts, credited with four shutouts.

Last season, Veron made three saves to help Oral Roberts capture a 2-0 win over the Gents, with the game played at Mayo Field, Nov. 6, 2005.
