CHICAGO, Ill.—The Centenary volleyball team swept Chicago State 3-0 (31-29, 30-27, 30-28) on Saturday evening on the road. With the win, the Ladies also swept the season series between the two schools 2-0. Sophomore Ashlee Freeman (Houston, TX/Bellaire) led the Maroon and White with an outstanding performance that ignited the Ladies on both sides of the net.

Centenary (10-19) got on the board immediately in game one when Freeman collected the first of her 14 kills in the match and Danielle Bochat (Boerne, TX/Boerne) served up an ace for a 2-0 lead. Chicago State responded by moving ahead at 5-4 on a kill from Shamara Clark and held the advantage throughout the majority of the contest.

With the Ladies down 24-20, Centenary began to make its move and scored four consecutive points to knot the game at 24-24 behind a kill and another ace from Bochat. Neither team would hold a lead greater than a single point the rest of the way until a CSU attack error and one last kill from Freeman gave the Ladies the 31-29 victory.

Chicago State (0-26) owned a 6-2 lead in game two but was unable to suppress the Ladies attack for long as Centenary put together a 7-1 run to move on top at 9-7. The Maroon and White would not relinquish their hold on the game, leading by as much as nine points before CSU gave one last push. The Lady Cougars came up short though as Freeman pounded down five more kills in the game and Rebecca Lunceford (Baton Rouge, LA/The Dunham School) added four spikes including the final point of the 30-27 game.

The third game began the same as the second as Chicago State clung to a 6-3 lead in the early going. Centenary answered with a pair of Bochat kills, another by Chevy White (Carthage, TX/Carthage) and multiple blocks by Freeman to claim a 9-8 advantage. The Ladies would pull away from there by riding the arms of Bochat and White who each tallied five kills in the game in addition to four more by Freeman.

Freeman added seven blocks in the win to go with her match-high 14 kills for Centenary. Bochat collected a double double with 13 kills and 11 digs while White finished with 12 digs. Lunceford and Lindsay Bekelja (League City, TX/Clear Creek) enjoyed excellent efforts compiling nine kills and 39 assists respectively and Lauren Fielding (Plano, TX/Plano Senior) turned in 23 digs on the evening.

The Ladies will return to Mid-Continent Conference play next weekend when they host Valparaiso on Friday at 7 p.m. and Oakland on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Gold Dome.
