TULSA, Okla. -- Behind two second-half goals, Oral Roberts (5-7-3, 2-3-0) defeated the Centenary men’s soccer team (4-11-0, 2-4-0), 3-1, Saturday at the ORU Soccer Complex, on the campus of the Golden Eagles.

Concluding the Mid-Continent Conference portion of the 2006 schedule for the Gents, goals by Jacob Schmoker and Juan Chang in the second half led Oral Roberts to the two-goal victory, its second conference win of the season.

With the game tied 1-1 following the intermission, Schmoker took a pass from junior Jesse Roque and beat Centenary goalkeeper James Speed (Corpus Christi, Texas/King) for the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute.

Chang added an insurance goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation, putting the game out of reach for the Gents. In the 87th minute, Chang followed up his own rebound to score his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Centenary broke the game open in the 31st minute, taking a 1-0 lead after junior Aaron Volanski (Magnolia, Texas/Memphis) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season. On a free kick, Volanski beat Golden Eagles goalkeeper Carlos Veron to get the Gents on the board.

Just nine minutes following Volanski’s opening goal, Oral Roberts freshman midfielder Jorge Davila scored the game-tying goal, leading to three unanswered goals for the Golden Eagles. Davila took a pass from Carlos Pinto and Eric Mattison for his third goal of the season in the 40th minute.

Speed made nine saves in the loss for the Gents.

Volanski and fellow-junior Brody Sager (Arlington, Texas/James W. Martin) led Centenary with three shots each. Oral Roberts outshot the Gents, 21-9, in the contest.

Centenary plays its final game of the 2006 season Oct. 30, hosting Texas A&M-International at Mayo Field at 7 p.m.
