Gents Prepare for ORU Shootout

fifth in last year's ORU Shootout

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Participating in its first tournament in almost a month, the Centenary men’s golf team competes in the Oral Roberts University Shootout, played at the Indian Springs Country Club, Monday and Tuesday.

Traveling to Broken Arrow, Okla., the three-round, 54-hole tournament begins Monday monring with a shotgun start, with teams playing two rounds on the tournament’s first day. Joining the Gents in this week’s 12-team tournament are host Oral Roberts, Southern Illinois and UMKC from the Mid-Continent Conference.

Through two tournaments, senior David Viviano (Lafayette, La./St. Thomas More) leads the Gents with a scoring average of 76.6. In five rounds this season, Viviano has the low round for Centenary, shooting a 4-under 68 in the Centenary Fall Classic Sept. 9.

In his freshman season, Mark Weeber (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward) was the low finisher for the Gents in their last tournament, finishing 30th in the Moe O’Brien Memorial Sept. 25-26. This season, Weeber has a 77.8 stroke average in five rounds.

Sophomore John Hogan (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) is third on the team with a stroke average of 78.5 in two rounds this season.

Last season, Centenary finished ninth in the ORU Shootout, with Viviano leading the Gents with a fifth-place finish.
