Men's and Women's Swimming Host Meet Saturday

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary men’s and women’s swim teams return to action Saturday, opening up the home portion of the 2006-07 season at the Centenary Fitness Center at 1 p.m.

Looking to capture their first victory of the season, the Gents host SMU in Saturday’s meet.

Centenary is led into Saturday’s meet by sophomore Chase Lambert (Benton, Ark./Bryant), who was named the Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week after his performance last weekend.

Against Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State, Lambert captured four first place finishes, sweeping the 200 free against OBU and Henderson State. Lambert currently holds the low time in the Mid-Con in both the 200- (1:45.19) and 500-yard free (4:50.74), along with the season-low time in the 200-yard fly (1:58.65).

Winning the 1,000 free against Henderson State, freshman Cole McGee (Albuquerque, N.M./LaCueva) has the season-low time in the conference in the 1000-yard free (10:07.61), looking for continued success this weekend against SMU.

Freshman Bryan Myers (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) and Sam Hayes (Alexandria, La./Alexandria) also won events for the Gents last weekend, winning the 50 free and 100 free, respectively.

Entering this weekend defeating two of three teams faced this season, the Ladies host Arkansas-Little Rock and New Orleans in this Saturday’s meet.

This weekend, Centenary looks to build on its early wins, in which five school records fell in meets against Ouachita Baptist, Arkansas-Little Rock and Henderson State.

Breaking two school records in her first collegiate meet, freshman Maggie Vaughan (Clinton, Miss./Clinton) swept both the 500-yard and 1000-yard free last weekend. Vaughan set new Centenary records in the 1000 free with a time of 10:34.58, breaking the Ladies mark in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.18.

In the 200 breaststroke, freshman Rebecca Loy (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) set a new school mark with a time of 2:29.94, while fellow-freshman Leslie Wyatt (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) captured the 400-yard individual medley against Henderson State, breaking the school mark with a time of 4:43.24.

Wyatt currently owns the season-low time in the Mid-Con in the 400 IM with her record-breaking time.

Admission to Saturday’s meet at the Fitness Center is free.
